The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Viet Nam for more than 25 years. GIZ provides advisory services to the Government of Vietnam and other development partners and is currently engaged in the areas: Environment and Biodiversity, Energy, Sustainable Economic Development and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
In the Energy Cluster, GIZ advises the Government of Viet Nam to achieve the country´s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement and the net-zero commitment to contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts. GIZ helps to reduce barriers for domestic and international investments in the energy market and promotes the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency. Furthermore, GIZ supports the technology cooperation between Vietnamese and German universities and private companies.
In TVET, GIZ is working closely with the Vietnamese authorities, vocational colleges and social partners on the development and implementation of strategies and policies to improve the demand-orientation of vocational training for an increasingly digital and green world of work. One focus is on improving the cooperation with the business sector and development partnerships with enterprises in TVET based on best practices of the German dual TVET system.
Furthermore, GIZ supports the implementation of Viet Nam’s Green Growth Strategy. This includes strengthening policymakers’ capacities to pursue green economic policies and providing legal advice to improve the regulatory framework. GIZ also endorses reforming Viet Nam’s public finance system and introducing new financial instruments for projects invested in the environment sector to achieve lasting impacts and to facilitate Viet Nam’s progress towards a sustainable future.
GIZ’s main commissioning party is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Other commissions come from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). GIZ is also engaged in various projects co-funded by the European Union, the Australian and Swiss Governments as well as private enterprises. It closely cooperates with the German Development Bank KfW in various joint programmes of German Development Cooperation.
