Philip Morris International has been a business partner of Vinataba in Vietnam since 1994. Through this strategic partnership, we have been able to provide significant international expertise to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of our joint venture – Vinataba - Philip Morris (VPM). VPM directly employs over 350 employees.
Since 2012 to the end of 2016, VPM was continuously in the national Large Tax Payer’s Club of enterprises contributing to the State budget over VND 1 trillion per annum. We also consistently hold the top tax payer slot in Can Tho, accounting for 10.34% of Can Tho’s budget in 2017.
As part of our commitment to Vietnam, Philip Morris International and its affiliate Vinataba - Philip Morris Limited support sustainable community development programs in Vietnam, including Can Tho City – our manufacturing base – and other provinces nationwide. Our focus areas include access to education, economic opportunity and empowering women, along with emergency disaster relief & rehabilitation, disaster preparedness and community development grants.
Since entering Vietnam in 1994, we have granted VND 40 billion (equivalent to US 1.9 million dollars) for Corporate Social Responsibility programs to develop sustainable communities in multiple provinces and cities – especially in Can Tho, with focus on education and creating jobs for female beneficiaries, along with emergency disaster relief and community development. PMI has built 350 Red Cross Compassion Houses to poor households in Central Vietnam and Can Tho, helped building 2 schools in Phu Yen Province and Can Tho City, provided water supply for 1,100 households, created community based program support for tens of thousands of beneficiaries.
For the above community services, we are very proud to be recognized by the State of Vietnam and awarded with Vietnam National Red Cross Humanity distinctions.
