Company Profile
The Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability in Vietnam’s built environment. As Vietnam’s exclusive representative of the World Green Building Council (WGBC), VGBC connects global best practices with local expertise to drive the construction and property sectors toward climate resilience, resource efficiency, and human well-being.
Founded in 2007, VGBC supports Vietnam’s transition toward the objective of Net Zero by 2050 through certification, training, research, and policy advocacy. Its flagship LOTUS Green Building Rating System, launched in 2010, is Vietnam’s first green building certification framework. Developed from established practices and adapted to Vietnam’s climate, construction conditions, and regulations, LOTUS provides a holistic assessment of buildings’ environmental performance. To date, VGBC has certified over 336 green buildings (79 LOTUS projects) covering more than one million square meters nationwide. Notable certified developments include AEON Malls, the Green One UN House, and the Embassy of Canada in Hanoi.
Beyond certification, VGBC serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing. Its community includes over 200 member organizations and 40 corporate partners spanning manufacturing, design, real estate, and investment. It has trained thousands of practitioners and accredited nearly 300 LOTUS professionals. VGBC also convenes 10 Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) bringing together experts from academia, the private sector, and public institutions to guide national discourse on circularity and climate adaptation.
As Vietnam’s national affiliate of the World Green Building Council since 2009, VGBC contributes to global sustainability efforts and currently represents Vietnam on the WGBC Sustainable Finance Taskforce, which brings together 25 Green Building Councils to accelerate ESG-aligned investment in verified green properties and advance standards toward carbon neutrality in line with COP26 and national NDC commitments. VGBC works closely with the Ministry of Construction, EuroCham Vietnam, and leading universities to foster a sustainable built environment. Through these partnerships, VGBC continues to act as a trusted connector between policy, practice, and innovation to support Vietnam’s pathway towards a low-carbon and resilient future.
