On 20th December, EuroCham representative delivered an insightful presentation at the Conference “EVFTA: Opportunities to attract investment in industries in Vietnam” which was organised by VIETTRADE - under Ministry of Industry and Trade. During his presentation, Mr. Boris Gueudin EuroCham Board member highlighted EuroCham’s activities toward EVFTA prospects. Its recent Business Climate Index results indicated that European business community uphold positive view on Vietnamese market given their expectation on EVFTA implementation. He also pointed out the opportunities and challenges it may bring to EU businesses in Vietnam, specifically in food & agriculture, green growth, mobility and nutritional products, pharmaceuticals. EuroCham expressed its willingness in cooperation with Viettrade as well as MOIT other institutions to promote the potential benefits from EVFTA.
On 6th December, EuroCham Chairman met with H.E. Mr. Vu Quang Minh, Assistant Minister, Director General of Economic Affairs Department (EAD) under Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to discuss cooperation opportunities in the future in order to increase the trade and investment activities in Vietnam
The EU-ABC is pleased to announce the 5th ASEAN-EU Business Summit, organised in collaboration with European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, will be held on 9th March 2017.
The Summit will be held in the Philippines and it will take place in parallel to the ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting and the EU-ASEAN dialogue session between Commissioner Malmström and her ASEAN counterparts. Over 300 delegates are expected to attend, representing political and business interests from Europe and Southeast Asia.
The Summit will consist of presentations from high ranking government representatives and prominent businessmen. Additionally, there will be a series of panel discussions covering various sectors of industry. The Summit Lunch and the Summit Cocktail Reception will give sponsors extensive exposure to a very attractive and senior audience.

The BCI is a very sought-after report by the media and official authorities in Vietnam, and is seen as a highly reputable and independent indicator of what "businesses think of business in Vietnam". EuroCham actively promotes its results towards the media and the Vietnamese Government, which are usually the subject of a high number of press enquiries to the Chamber.
EuroCham representatives Chairman Michael Behrens, Vice-Chairman Tomaso Andreatta, and Vice-Chairman Nicolas Audier presented recommendations on behalf of the European business community at the Annual Vietnam Business Forum 2016 (VBF), taking place on 5th December in Hanoi. The Forum was themed “Strengthening the Private Sector: Forging Partnerships between Domestic and Foreign Enterprises for a Harmonious Development of the Vietnamese economy”. The forum welcomed the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and gathered Government decision-makers such as Ministry leaders of MPI, MOIT, MOF, SBV, MOH, MARD, MONRE, MOST, MCST, MOE, among other. The event also included the participation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank, as well as chambers of commerce and VBF working group heads. Tomaso Andreatta - Member of the VBF Consortium Management Board and Vice Chairman of EuroCham - presented EuroCham’s key recommendations to the Government.
On 21st November, Deputy President of Ho Chi Minh City Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong met with EuroCham Green Growth Sector Committee delegation led by EuroCham Chairman, Mr. Michael Behrens. The two leaders discussed cooperation opportunities and preparations for a series of activities towards the aim to develop Ho Chi Minh City into an efficient and smart city.
EuroCham expressed high expectations and interests in the Vietnamese investment market and expanding businesses into many provinces, also in Ho Chi Minh City which offers many opportunities. This shows the positive signs for further cooperation, especially while the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement is expected to facilitate and boost the trade among EU and Vietnam.
Mr. Behrens, highlighting the strengths of European investors such as responsibility and sustainability, long-term planning; having good know-how and experience and being eager to support the City to solve its challenges in waste and water management, pollution, and promotion of green and renewable energy, environment protection and sustainable building with the aim to make Ho Chi Minh City a desirable and livable place for the long terms. On this occasion, as a good start of the cooperation with the City, EuroCham invited the Peoples Committee leaders and Departments to join EuroCham conference on Sustainable Building Solutions towards Smart City on 24th November.
Mr. Phong highly appreciated and welcomed the EuroCham’ s proactive approach and taking the role of a strong bridge between the business community and authorities, updating on current policies and helping the City to create favorable investment incentives. Mr. Phong also said that he looks forward to EuroCham supporting the City in projects related to digitalization and use of information technology software.
In recent years, European SMEs have started to look to the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be a key player in the investment and development of several different types of technologies across a multitude of industries. Relatively low labor costs, high skill levels and diversity in the level of development across the region, enabling South-East Asia to attract a range of technologies, are making the region so attractive for the European SMEs.
