With a population of over 10 million people, the City has contributed nearly 22% of GDP and 28% of the total national budget revenue. In order to promote economic growth and develop in a fast and sustainable manner, the City has set up 7 breakthrough programs and, in 2017, added the HCMC construction project to become a Smart urban area, building the East of the City to become an Innovative urban area. This is considered a nucleus to lead and boost the economy in the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Building on the remarkable results of 2017, in 2018 the City has also organised an International Conference and forums on Innovative City. With these results, HCMC will complete the plan for Innovative District (District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District on the basis of digital economic development and knowledge economy), forming the core of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the City and the region through 2018.
