The main purpose of the extended trip to Europe was the promotion of trade and investment in Vietnam. During his visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister Hue met with Vice President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen to discuss intensifying the Vietnam - EU relationship in view of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Meetings also took place with European Union Chief Negotiator for the EVFTA Mauro Petriccione who EuroCham had just met early in the month.
EuroCham also joined and contributed to the programme of Deputy Prime Minister Hue. On September 18th, EuroCham's Pharma Group held a meeting to address key concerns of the pharmaceutical industry representing 10% of EU exports to Vietnam. EuroCham's Executive Director Almut Roessner together with representatives for the Sector Committees GreenGrowth and Wine & Spirits raised issues of the respective industries with Deputy Prime Minister before joining a business conference. Ms. Almut shared the findings of EuroCham's recent member survey on expectation of the EVFTA with the audience of 100 participants. She was joined on the panel by 2 EuroCham members Mr. Frank Wouters, Deputy CEO Rent-a-Port N.V. and Ms. Maily Anna Maria Nguyen, BECAMEX’s representative in Europe.
EuroCham's engagement and strong presence during Deputy Prime Minister Hue's visit to Brussels, was a clear signal of our strong commitment to support a timely ratification and efficient implementation of the EVFTA.
