On 24 April 2026, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in collaboration with the Bac Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, co-hosted the 2026 FDI Connection Forum under the theme “Towards Sustainable Global Supply Chains.” The event gathered over 600 participants, including government leaders, diplomats, business associations, and international corporations.
Opening the forum, VCCI Chairman Ho Sy Hung highlighted the profound global shifts driven by geopolitical dynamics, technological competition, and rising sustainability requirements. He noted that while Vietnam remains an attractive investment destination, the next step is to move beyond participation in global value chains towards strengthening its position within them.
Chairman of the Bac Ninh People’s Committee Pham Hoang Son reaffirmed the province’s ambition to become a centrally governed city, with a focus on developing strategic infrastructure, including transport networks, next-generation industrial parks, logistics systems, digital infrastructure, and a future free trade zone.
Representing EuroCham, Vice Chairman Torben Minko joined the high-level dialogue on upgrading Vietnamese enterprises to Tier-1 suppliers in global value chains. He highlighted a clear shift: integration into European value chains is no longer driven by cost competitiveness alone. Mr. Minko emphasised critical factors:
- Mutual understanding: selecting the right partners within the supply chain is essential for effective collaboration
- Sustainability (ESG): aligning with EU standards by integrating ESG principles across operations. He noted that European companies are placing increasing emphasis on ESG standards in line with EU regulations. Vietnamese Tier-1 suppliers, therefore, need to integrate ESG principles across all operations while strengthening human capacity to fully comprehend and comply with these standards
- Reliability: ensuring stable, consistent supply to meet the long-term planning needs of European partners
The forum provided a valuable platform for dialogue on enhancing Vietnam’s role in global supply chains, while reinforcing the importance of sustainability, capability building, and strategic alignment with international standards.
