On 11th April 2108, the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham), its partner EVBN coorganised with Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Customs a Customs training session for European business community at Royal Hotel Saigon.
Mrs. Maren Maischein, EuroCham Executive Board member, emphasized in her opening remarks that 2017 was a remarkable year for a closer cooperation between HCMC Department of Customs and EuroCham. The two sides held relevant training sessions and dialogues that achieved satisfactory results. HCMC Department of Customs has become an effective partner between the business community and central government authorities. Leveraging the successful outcome of previous training and dialogues in 2017, this Customs session was fruitful with the participation of more than 90 representatives from both European and Vietnamese businesses. The three main topics of Customs Valuation, HS Code and Special Preferential Tax were presented to the participants at management and executive level. The training session aimed to equip participants with key knowledge on the subject and facilitate a better and deeper understanding of rules and regulations as well as solving out their concerns during the normal business operations.
The main presenter of the training was Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Deputy Head of Tax Import & Export Department, Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Customs. Mr. Toan has experience in Customs re-valuation and methods, HS Codes and relevant Tax regulations. He has been contributing significantly to the success of cooperation between EuroCham and the HCMC Customs by creating linkage with businesses and Customs authorities, being key contact for providing feedback to EuroCham on the chamber’s 2018 Whitebook recommendations and sharing his valuable insights regarding Customs and Tax.
During the training session, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan introduced to businesses the instruction and guidance of customs valuation methods for import and export goods; Goods classification – HS Code; Special Preferential Tax. Not only discussed about legislation, the presenter and his collegues also spent time to explain and solve many specific cases raised by participants. These varied from many sectors and industries close to EuroCham, including: pharmaceuticals, mobility, wines & spirits, transport and logistics, agriculture, etc. Most of the questions and concerns related to the customs procedures, goods clearance and dutiable valuation. All the companies’ questions will be consolidated by EuroCham and sent to the Customs for feedback. The content of feedback will be uploaded on EuroCham website once available (tentatively early May 2018).
The one-day training session ended with a high evaluation and feedback from participants. In the closing remarks, Ms. Le Thanh Binh, EuroCham Senior Advocacy Manager, once again confirmed the commitment of EuroCham in being a bridge between European business community and Ho Chi Minh City government authorities, especially Ho Chi Minh City Department of Customs in order to support Ho Chi Minh City to become an attractive, efficient and sustainable destination for European investors and businesses.
