The EU-ASEAN Business Council played an active role in the recent successful ASEAN Business Investment 2016 in Vientiane, Laos. This annual conference, organized by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, brought together policy makers, business leaders, government officials and academics to discuss key issues facing the ASEAN region. Key note speeches and key interviews were given by Prime Minister Abe of Japan, President Duterte of the Philippines, and Christine Lagarde, MD of the IMF. Panels during the Summit covered topics such as provision of power and infrastructure in ASEAN, the development of IT and technology, and trade facilitation issues.
EU-ABC Vice Chairman, Martin Hayes, gave a speech on the importance of the development of technology to businesses throughout the region and the challenges that that brings to business and government. EU-ABC Treasurer, Carsten Hess, took part in the panel on trade facilitation issues, whilst Executive Director, Chris Humphrey, moderated the panel on Infrastructure, Energy and the Environment.
