Hau Giang, Vietnam – September 20, 2024 – BASF and co-sponsors have broken ground on a new school building project at Phuong Ninh Primary and Secondary School, Phung Hiep District, Hau Giang province1, a remote area in Vietnam. The project includes four new classrooms totaling 256 m² and a 1,000 m² playground, aimed at enhancing the educational experience for both teachers and students. This eighth project, facilitated by Saigon Children’s Charity CIO as part of its ‘School Building’ program, will benefit nearly 120-150 students aged 6-15 annually upon its completion in the first quarter of 2025.
Erick Contreras, Managing Director, BASF Vietnam, stated: “At BASF, we support the United Nation’s sustainable development goal of providing quality education to the community. Offering the next generation the best start in life with safer and more comfortable learning facilities through school renovation is one of our social engagement priorities. It is especially meaningful this year as we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Vietnam and continue to drive this long-term program with our key customers and business partners to support the country’s future talents.”
Located about 250 km from Ho Chi Minh City, the school is situated in a remote district of Hau Giang province1 in the Mekong Delta region, where approximately 65% of the population works in agriculture and the average income per capita is about VND 5 million (equivalent USD 200) per month2. The existing school, built in the 1990s, is in a rundown and unsafe condition for its over 600 students, especially in hot weather and flooding season. The school will be refurbished with products meeting Green Label Certifications sponsored by Nippon Paint Việt Nam. These products, made from sustainable raw materials provided by BASF, will ensure long-term benefits for the school environment, focusing on health, safety, and energy efficiency.
