Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – Bosch Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) today commemorate the opening of the on-campus Bosch Automotive Lab. Equipped with Bosch’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) and fuel level sensor (FLS) test benches, the lab aims to enhance the learning experience of technical students majoring in various automotive engineering programs from HCMUT’s Faculty of Transportation Engineering.
“Bosch is committed to the future of education in Vietnam, especially when it comes to technology and innovation, and this is embedded in our values – to enrich the society that we operate in,” said Guru Mallikarjuna, managing director of Bosch Vietnam. “We look forward to more university-industry collaborations in Vietnam and are honored to play an active part in shaping the skilled technical workforce of the future.”
This experimental set-up, together with industry-relevant modules adapted into the university’s current curriculum, is designed to help students better understand fuel measuring mechanisms for automotive vehicles and the characteristics of a CVT. As testing and training activities are expected to rise, more test benches will be added in the future. The FLS test benches are especially useful as they speed up the verification process of an automotive design or model, accelerating the application of lab-scale technologies into real-world problems, thus, boosting local innovations efforts.
“With the addition of Bosch Automotive Lab on campus, our students can enjoy a more diversified curriculum, with high-quality equipment to enrich their learning experience,” shared Prof. Mai Thanh Phong, President of HCMUT. “It is our mission to prepare and mold our students into a highly desirable workforce not only for the local job market but abroad.”
Bosch’s first visit to HCMUT in December 2020 placed the foundation for this collaboration in the following years. With the guidance from the Faculty of Transportation Engineering, Bosch’s second visit in March 2021 for a site survey successfully determined the lab's location in the university, which led to both parties officially signing an Agreement Contract of Sponsorship on October 25, 2021; and after 17 months, Bosch Automotive Lab was finally established.
From local to global – thinking beyond boundaries
Officially granted the HCERES and AUN-QA accreditations since 2017, HCMUT is recognized as one of the top technical universities in Vietnam, acknowledged by various international accreditation organizations for higher education (ABET, AUN-QA, FIBAA, AQAS, BSI, …)[1]. The 65-year-old university is visioned to be globally recognized as the leading university in the region for teaching, learning, research, and entrepreneurship as well as innovation. HCMUT also pays strong attention to university-industry collaboration and considers it as one of the factors leading to the university's sustainable development. HCMUT’s key partners included over 82 domestic and foreign enterprises and cooperated in various activities contributing to the progressive development of Vietnam and the region.
Through its partnership with Bosch, HCMUT’s automotive engineering students are also provided with the opportunity to learn and train under the guidance and mentorship of Bosch’s technology experts, besides access to various talent development and internship programs at the company.
Cultivating a learning environment
Bosch places particular emphasis on education to nurture the future workforce. Since its establishment, Bosch Vietnam has collaborated with local partners and universities to help address and motivate the educational needs of aspiring youths. From year-round internship opportunities to German-standard vocational training (TGA program), Bosch strives to customize learning experience rather than implementing a one-size-fits-all learning experience. Bosch is also active in innovation-oriented competitions, such as CODERACE CHALLENGE 2022 and Greenovator Hackathon 2021 as an added platform for the youth of Vietnam to showcase their soft skills while converting theoretical knowledge into practice.
