On 8 October, 2020 the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on “Dissemination of Technical Barriers to Implement the EVFTA for Plant and Animal products” in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Panel of the Conference
FAABS Co-Chairman Mr. Quach The Phong delivered a speech at the conference. In his speech, he emphasized that it was necessary to review the current Law on Food Safety regarding relevant authorities of import, export, distribution and retail of food.
“The current Law on Food Safety is already a good set up reflecting different expertise and areas of authorities of relevant ministries. However, difficulties for EU businesses in Vietnam still arise when these business need to perform a registration and market entry plan for some types of food or food ingredients that are entirely new to the Vietnam market. In these cases, the business needs to contact multiple respective ministries in import, export, distribution and retailing. A coordination mechanism or task force will help businesses to introduce and do business more smoothly in Vietnam, leading to a well-ordered investment stream into Vietnam during the EVFTA implementation process”, said Mr. Phong.
