On October 16 2020, the Agro-Product Processing and Market Development Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) held a conference on disseminating technical barriers to implement the EVFTA for the aqua-products industry in Can Tho City. This is one of the activities aimed at carrying out the action plan to implement the EVFTA of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The conference was an opportunity to grasp policy changes, new regulations, technical barriers, technical standards, traceability, import-export control measures, quarantine, etc. regarding the export of agricultural products to the EU market. It was also a chance to inform localities and enterprises to organize production and processing to meet market regulations; take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges to fulfill commitments in the EVFTA, to achieve the development goals of the fisheries sector.
FAABS Representative Mr. Le Van Dam attended the conference and delivered a speech on clarifying export opportunities for aqua-products business in Can Tho in particular and Vietnam in general. In his speech, he emphasized that EVFTA is an opportunity for Can Tho to upgrade to higher quality standards, improve and upgrade laboratories and testing, improve food safety, increase the probability to successfully meet foreign standards, drive the upgrade of the agriculture sector to ensure the quality of processed food products and the productivity and ease trade for import and export.
