EuroCham office phone number changed Mon, 6 Oct: As of 19 October 2008, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is going to change all fixed phone number in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and other 53 provinces and cities by adding an extra number "3" at the beginning the current number. Tax Alert from KPMG - Significant PIT Decree Mon, 8 Sep: On 8 September 2008, the Government issued a New Personal Income Tax (PIT) decree providing detailed guidance for articles of the PIT law. The decree will be effective from 1 January 2009. Full Article

Commission posts spending breakdown European voice, Thu, 2 Oct: The European Commission has launched a new website that aims to boost the level of information made available to the public on the EU's spending activities. The website, online from 2 October, discloses information on organisations that receive money from Commission-run programmes including ERASMUS, research, education and transport programmes. Single digit inflation hope Vietnam Investment Review, Mon, 29 Sep: Vietnam might reach its target of one-digit inflation by 2010 if the government’s efforts to rein it in are constant. The General Statistics Office last week reported that Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) was estimated to increase by 0.18 per cent in September from August of 1.56 per cent month-on-month, the slowest rise in a single month since April 2007.
